IRAN, Qajars. Muzzafar al-Din Shah, AH 1313-1324 / AD 1896-1907. Medal for valour (Silver, 38 mm, 16.23 g, 12 h), AH 1318 = 1900/1. Within a dotted circle, a lion standing to left, holding a sword in its right hand; a rising sun behind; all surrounded by a wreath. Rev. Within a dotted circle, ‘al-sulṭān Muẓaffar al-Dīn Shāh Qājār’ (‘Sultan Muzaffar al-Din Shah Qajar’ in Persian); below, ‘1318’ (in Persian); in the margin, the couplet ‘har shir del ke doshman-e shah rā enān gereft / az āftāb-e hemmat-e mā in neshān gereft’ (‘Every lion-hearted person who took the rein of the King’s enemy, received this medal from the sun of our ambition’ in Persian). Moshiri 40 (AH 1317). Rare. With a suspension loop. Slightly toned. Minor scratches, otherwise, virtually as struck.
